Greenlands Equestrian Centre Indoor Driving Competitions -
The first two competitions in the winter series of indoor driving competitions organised annually by Amanda Saville and her team, took place at the Greenlands Equestrian Centre near Carlisle on 31st Jan and 27th Feb These events give drivers the opportunity to get their ponies going again after a winter break – with a gentle and relaxed competition with no pressure. It is also a great place for youngsters and those with disabilities to start competing and learn about the in’s and out’s with support from older drivers and experts. We were delighted to have a record entry of young disabled drivers in both competitions. There were 3 classes – Junior, Novice and Open. The Junior Class was won by Megan Noble on both dates driving her talented Dartmoor Hill Pony, Flash. Winner of the Novice Class on the 27th was Kevin Morton with his lovely coloured cob, Stanley, closely followed by Leanne Tomlinson. Josh Hepple who is impaired by cerebral palsy was 3rd.
Overall champion of both competitions and winner of the Open Class was Ollie Dernie with her veteran Welsh cob, Prince. Ollie is almost unbeatable indoors – leading the entry in every phase. Age has in no way affected Prince’s agility around the obstacles, or his precision and pace in the dressage! Amanda Nisbet was a close second in the class. Third place in Feb was shared by Christine James and David Hewat.
